Where did summer go?

February 2024
Well well well. We’re already at edition #2 of the year and I’ve spent more time watching Survivor than reviewing anki. Sincerely hope that you’re having better luck than me. How exciting though, we’re all back on deck and first years are hopefully settling in under the stellar stewardship of second year. And just as exciting is our third year cohort finding new homes and practical skills across the state(s). Read on for some opportunities that are closing fast, as well as for some recommended listening.
As always we’re always looking for regular and one-off contributions, including anything from research updates to movie recommendations. If you’re really keen and interested in joining fluoro as an editor (would love someone on the ground in Orange) please email heidihorseradish@gmail.com 😚

don’t think of this @ ur next neonate check

RWAV Conference -Ballarat

Catherine killing it as per
Hewie and I were sponsored by our health district (shout out to Swan Hill District Health) to attend freezing but beautiful Ballarat for Rural Workforce Agency Victoria’s 2024 Conference. We spent 2 days hearing about workforce solutions and opportunities, and it was great meeting fellow rural students and professionals from across the health spectrum. Highlights included a briefer on the Ngayubah Gadan Consensus Statement from National Rural Health Commissioner (and my hero) Dr Ruth Stewart and some workshops on neurodiversity affirming practice. Find an awesome list of resources here or delve into the neat framework below…

excited to jump in the car and listen to some top notch podcasts
If you do lots of driving, or you do a few mundane tasks during your week you probably love Podcasts and Audiobooks as much as me. While it can be hard to learn some types of content through audio, you can gain great background context from some audiobooks. Even listening to people talk in medical lingo can help familiarise you with the vernacular and take a load off your brain. Here are some of my personal favourites to add to the ones that other students have already suggested. Some you'll have to buy and some are free.
